Journal: [personal profile] thats_it

Character Background: Here.
Character Personality:
On the surface, Ignis is every bit the position he was trained for -- the King's chief advisor and tactician, the Hand of the King. As such, then, Ignis comes off as outwardly reserved as to keep a keen eye on the goings on around him, and polite to the point of formality when he is engaged in conversation. He takes surprises, unpleasant or otherwise, in stride and to the point where he probably won't bat an eyelash when confronted with the sometimes absurdity of the Void, as it seemingly impossible to get under his skin, and can work with just about anything. Everything has an an angle to be worked, a weakness or a want that can be exploited, and he has a knack for finding those things to be able to make snap but sound decisions. It's literally his job -- as is stepping up, when someone needs something, to make it happen. There are literally points in game where the player, playing as the to-be King, Noct, can choose to defer to him to come up with a solution to a problem or find just the thing to say to an ally. He takes a certain amount of pride in all of that, too, a perfectionist in everything he does.

Beyond that outward cool and collected demeanor, however, Ignis is much warmer than he pretends to be. While he was trained for service, he enjoys taking care of his friends, very much the mom friend of his social circles. He wants to make sure the people he loves have what they need -- or, just as often, what they want. He's just as likely to fuss at someone to eat their vegetables and brush their teeth as he is to find just the right thing to, say, make a bad day better. He spent the better part of several years trying to reverse engineer a pastry Noct had, in better and simpler days, just because it was something he wanted, for example. He's also not afraid to do what it takes to protect the things he cares about. He would have put on the Ring of the Lucii, an act that, in exchange for its power, potentially could have killed him, to protect Noct. He would have done the same for any of the party, too, for how much they mean to the Prince, for how much they come to mean to him. He loves and is loyal to the people he cares about to a fault.

Finally, under frost and fire, both, Ignis is kind of a nerd. He doesn't always recognize a joke for what it is, for how serious his position has made him be most of the time, but when he does, he has a tendency to respond with puns or dry wit, and can appreciate anyone who can keep up with either. Or at least who won't groan at the puns shut up, Prompto, he's hilarious.

Character Abilities: In terms of supernatural abilities, everything extraordinary about Ignis comes from being vested in the magic of the Crystal, a powerful magical artifact from his world, thanks to his position as a member of the Noct's royal retinue. This allows him to summon his weapons, a pair of daggers and a lance, from seemingly thin air, and imbue his or his allies' weapons with elemental energy to varying effect. Since these abilities are, in the end, tied to Noct and the Crystal, however, he is unable to do either of these things without the Prince around. Presumably, he'd similarly be unable to call his weapons or magic while Noct remains depowered in the setting.

In a more mundane sense, Ignis is the brains of the group, able to pinpoint enemy weaknesses and suggest means of dealing with them on the fly and to great effect. Likewise, he often advises the party on anything particularly dangerous their target his capable of, such as warning about a monster's ability to use poison and the like. Beyond that, he's also an accomplished chef, and usually served as the party's driver, while on the road to their ultimate destiny. Finally, Ignis is a natural acrobat, and that shows in combat, much of his fighting style reliant on using his lance as a vault, to avoid enemies or performing with almost dancelike grace while on the offensive.

Items: Beyond the clothes on his back, Ignis will be arriving with the Ring of the Lucii, taken from Noct right before his arrival. While the ring has a series of neat powers tied to it, however, it can only safely be used by a member of the Lucian Royal family, so even if it worked within the confines of the setting, Ignis wouldn't be able to do much with it. At this point, it's just a very pretty piece of jewelry that he'll probably end up putting on a chain for safekeeping or give to Noct.

Imprint

Imprint Type: Scenery
Summary: A power plant run off geothermal energy drawn from a meteorite.
Full Details: Located in Lestallum, the EXINERIS Power Plant is, well, a power plant run on shards of the Meteor of the Six, an asteroid that fell to the planet in ages past. How, exactly, this works beyond the plant drawing on some sort of geothermal energy is vague within the lore of the world, at best, but the interior of the plant is a labyrinth of catwalks, pipes and oversized crucibles. A specialized protective suit is required to enter the bowels of the plant, though thankfully, there are lockers containing thermal suits just outside most of the areas where they're needed. Based on all of this (and the fact that the meteorite shards the plant runs on are not inexhaustible), however, it might be that the plant is something like a coal power plant, save for the fact that it burns clean. Either way, the plan provides power to Lestallum, the city built around it, and the nearby areas easily; it powers the better part of the continent, albeit with much more difficulty, in the distant and very literally dark future.

Imprint Type: Species
Summary: The last of the franchise staples. A small, amphibian monster often seen carrying a lantern and a chef's knife.
Full Details: Despite being a daemon, one of the nocturnal and oftentimes deadly monsters that plague the world Ignis hails from, Tonberries (singular, Tonberry) are easy to underestimate at first glance. Often no more than 3' tall, with a cute, almost fishlike fin at the end of a long tail, they tend towards wearing burlap robes as they wander around seemingly aimlessly. They're almost cute, until they're lunging at you, at break-neck speed, with the knives they carry and deadly intent. And assuming one can manage to get out of the way fast enough, the first time? Tonberries are also capable of paralyzing people with a Stop spell, making them easy targets for a second pass, or unleashing a wisp of fire from their lanterns that home in on its target like a heat-seeking missile. On the plus side, however, their hides don't provide them much protection, so a dagger or a bullet will do the trick, and they're not particularly fond of the cold or bright light. Direct sunlight can and will destroy them entirely after a few seconds' exposure.

Imprint Type: Species
Summary: An orange tree.
Full Details: No different than a normal orange tree, Duscean orange trees prefer moderate temperatures, and need considerable amounts of sunshine and water. They flower for several months before producing fruit, and when the fruit is ripe (or when the tree has produced too much fruit to support), it falls off, ready to be collected and eaten. Juice and meat both boast a sweet but tangy taste.
